What I've Been Listening To
What have YOU been listening to?
A federal holiday is a special day, thus it requires a special post.
Look, I really love music. But I have been going through a time in my life recently where most music doesn’t taste very good. It’s not the music I’m listening to, it’s how I hear it. My mind is not absorbing or appreciating it the way it normally would.
So I’m struggling. And after you’ve skimmed this list, I’d love to hear from you in the comments. If you’re reading this, surely you’ve been listening to something lately, right?
The Warlocks - The Manic Excessive Sounds of the Warlocks
I never hear anyone talking about this band, but they have a sound and I really like that sound most of the time. Maybe it’s the Velvet Underground influence that woo’s me.
Morgan Wade = The Party Is Over
Attending a Morgan Wade show is the best way to get engaged. Just ask my soon-to-be-wife, Alison. I’m not usually a big fan of female country artists, but Morgan Wade has a sensibility and grit in her music that captures me.
Cody Jinks - In My Blood
The hippies and the cowboys know it must be the whiskey that keeps a person listening to Cody Jinks music.
Tyler Childers - Snipe Hunter
Another artist I have seen in person that did not disappoint. My “namesake” Hayes Carll opened which made it an even better experience.
Brian Eno & Beatie Wolfe - Lateral
Brian Eno is known as the father of the modern ambient era. I never would’ve thought it, but teaming up with sultry female vocals produced an impressive result.
Sam Fender - “People Watching”
Here’s a song you might need to hear, too.
So again, I ask you, what have you been listening to?

I'm pretty sure I know ... ;) you need to write (ahem) and the music will come to you LOL. I listen to stuff that my brain automatically shuts off when I am writing. It doesn't matter too much -- classical, baroque, Cuban, jazz. I wear headphones. There have been MANY times the music has stopped and there I am with headphones and nothing coming though... lolol.
